Louisa Street

Sited on Mount Alexandra overlooking the village of Mittagong in the Southern Highlands is the Louisa Street house. A lightweight, contemporary home that seamlessly blends into the mountain landscape.

Although the site provided many challenges, such as cutting through two metres of solid sandstone to create a plateau for the garage and courtyard, it was definitely worth the effort.

With a level three fire rating, material selection was paramount. The use of colorbond iron was the perfect choice for wall and roof cladding, combined with spotted gum hardwood for the verandahs and decks. A 200mm thick commercial hebel floor system creates outstanding thermal efficiency as well as lowers the costs and adheres to the fire rating requirements.

The use of spotted gum flooring internally created that transitional flow out to the spotted gum decking on the verandahs. While the open floor plan and multiple windows allow magnificent views day and night, much to the clients joy. Fantastic result on an awkward site.
